Vampyr developer reveals psychological thriller ‘Twin Mirror’ for Xbox One and PC

Dontnod Entertainment just released Vampyr on Xbox One and other platforms, but the developer has another important project in the pipeline. Today, the studio and publisher Bandai Namco revealed a mystery game called “Twin Mirror”. Twin Mirror is a psychological thriller and a first for Bandai Namco which is known for action games. The title is slated to release in 2019 for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.

According to Dontnod, “Twin Mirror showcases a player-driven experience featuring a malleable narrative that chronicles the journey of a tormented hero who must walk a tightrope between the harsh realities of the film noir-esque Basswood, West Virginia, and his own personal struggle.” Players assume the role of Sam, a young investigative journalist, who suffers a harsh breakup he’s desperately trying to overcome, and is returning home to bury a friend. Talk about a bad day! Sam wakes up one morning in his hotel room with a bloody shirt and no memory of his whereabouts the previous night. He then embarks on a thrilling journey to find the truth, with his mind as his only weapon.

Dontnod’s head Oskar Guilbert provided more details about the project in a statement he issued alongside the reveal.

Twin Mirror is a game heavily rooted in the concept of duality, redemption and self-acceptance and is on track to deliver a stunning emotional journey. While we were scripting the player’s investigations within the game, we suddenly found ourselves researching just how far the limits of the Narrative Adventure genre could be pushed in the real world. When the dust settled, all evidence pointed towards Twin Mirror being a stunning emotional journey. Now, we can’t wait to see how the players react when all the pieces of their investigation fall into place within the game.

Hopefully Twin Mirror will be a polished experience when it launches next year. Life Is Strange is regarded by many as a modern cult classic so Dontnod has a lot to live up to. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more about the game.
