While Dell’s new Alienware Area-51m is likely to get the most attention from gamers at CES 2019, the PC manufacturer has also debuted refreshes for its more conservatively priced G5 and G7 gaming laptops.
Dell G5 15
The 15.6-inch Dell G5 15 is following suit with the steady march of other gaming laptops coming out of CES 2019 by adding NVIDIA’s latest GeForce RTX 20 Series graphics to the mix. At the low-end, gamers will be able to opt for last-generation NVIDIA graphics with the GTX 1050Ti. But from there, it’s all RTX, with the RTX 2060, RTX 2070 with Max-Q, and RTX 2080 with Max-Q, all being available.
Other specs include Intel’s 8th Gen Core processors, including the Core i5-8300HQ and Core i7-8750HQ. That’s in addition to up to 16GB of RAM (with up to 32GB supported) and up to 2TB of storage in various configurations.
Lastly, the 1080p display is available in multiple varieties, including 60Hz and 144Hz panels and option NVIDIA G-Sync. Dell also plans to launch a version of the G5 15 with a 4K OLED 60Hz display starting in April. Buyers can also upgrade to the G5 SE, which features a white exterior and a clear panel showing the fans on the bottom of the base.
The Dell G5 15 is expected to launch on January 29 with prices starting at $999. The G5 SE will be available as an upgrade option during configuration.
Dell G7 15 and 17
The latest G7 15-inch and 17-inch models are available with largely the same specs as the refreshed G5. Where Dell has really cranked things up is with the processor selection, which adds Intel’s 8th Gen Core i9-8950HK to the mix.
Otherwise, you’re looking at GeForce GTX 1050Ti, RTX 2060, RTX 2070 with Max-Q, and RTX 2080 with Max-Q for graphics options. Similarly, you can configure each with up to 16GB of RAM (up to 32GB supported) and up to 2TB of storage space.
On the 17-inch G7, you’ll only be able to select from 60Hz and 144Hz 1080p panels for the display with option G-Sync. Meanwhile, the 15-inch model comes with 1080p 60Hz and 144Hz panels and option G-Sync as well, but Dell will also launch an OLED 60Hz display option by late April.
The Dell G7 15 and G7 17 are expected to launch on January 29 with prices starting at $1,100 and $1,380, respectively. Note that, if you want to equip your model with a Core i9 processor, Dell says that option won’t be available initially, but should become available by the end of May.
