Apple temporarily switched the focus of its website on Thursday, highlighting Global Accessibility Awareness Day and celebrating enabling features in its products.
An updated splash page sports the slogan “Technology is most powerful when it empowers everyone.” Clicking or tapping through takes visitors to the Accessibility minisite, at the top of which is a short promo film originally released in 2016. The clip shows real-world applications of Apple’s technology.
Below that are blurbs, graphics, and animations highlighting individual features. These include things like VoiceOver interface descriptions, Live Listen tuning for Made for iPhone hearing aids, and Switch Control for those unable to use touch gestures or handheld peripherals.
Some other sections focus on things like wheelchair support on the Apple Watch, and even the pairing of HomeKit accessories with the voice-controlled HomePod.
The feature blurbs represent a significant expansion of the Accessibility site, which Apple will likely keep once Global Accessibility Awareness Day has passed.
The company also used the occasion to launch an expansion of its Everyone Can Code program to schools for the blind and deaf, starting this fall. The program teaches Apple’s Swift programming language, used primarily to build apps for macOS, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS.
